WHAT IS BINGE

A binge is a harm behavior, which we inadvertently succumb to over a short period of time. Binge means excessive consumption of food (binge eating) or drink alcohol (binge drinking). People who do not have the bad practice of binge, may occasionally want to have excessive food, or alcohol, which may leads to symptoms of binge.

Type of binge

Binge is generally two types

  • Binge drinking
  • Binge eating

Binge drinking

Binge drinking is also called as heavy episodic drinking. It is a modern epithet for drinking alcohol with the intention of becoming intoxicated of alcohol over a short period of time.

Binge eating

Binge eating is a pattern of disorder which consists of uncontrollable eating. Binge eaters often eat even when they are hungry and continue to consumption of foods long after they full.

Causes of binge

Biological causes of binge eating

Biological causes may responsible for binge.

Example- last year my friend Eli’s hypothalamus (the part of brain that control our appetite) is damaged due to head injury. As a result of that hypothalamus may not be sending proper massages of hunger and fullness. Now Eli is suffering from overweight as she cannot understand about her appetite and fullness, and consuming food over a period of her full.

Social causes of binge eating

Social eating is also responsible for binge. Due to social influence we consume more food without feeling any appetite.

Example- In a birthday party Kristin consumed hamburger (which contains 260 kcal calorie), cake (which contains 250 kcal calorie), pasta (which contains 370 kcal calorie) etc, now she is suffering from heart disease.

Psychological causes of binge eating

Depression and binge are interrelated.

Example – nowadays my friend Tom is very depressed, as his girlfriend is engaged with other guy, so he is consuming excessive amount of foods than that of his requirements. 

Signs and symptoms of binge

Inability to stop excessive drinking or eating

Rapidly eating or drinking large portion of foods or alcohol

Feeling tension and can overcome by consuming foods or drinking alcohol.

Never feeling satisfied, no matter how much consume or drink.

Without any meal plan, consume more foods.

Conclusion

Binge practice is not a good practice. It is not easy to overcome from binge. We should have a good relationship of healthy food. Healthy eating and drinking involves making a balanced diet. We should make sure that we are having right vitamin and mineral.
